
Xavier Grobet was raised in Mexico City where he graduated from the prominent film school, Centro de Capacitacion Cinematographica. Early on he joined the Mexican Union STYM and began working as a camera assistant in such films like, “The Last Rite”, with director of photography David Watkin and “Revenge” by Jeffrey Kimball.
At an early age Mr. Grobet started shooting a variety of super 8mm films and has ever since been focused on becoming a director of photography. Born in a generation of young filmmakers, he shared a common interest in producing unique creative contributions for the film industry.
At age 27, Xavier was given an opportunity to DP “La Mujer de Benjamin”, produced by the film school’s graduate student program. It went on to win over 20 awards world wide, including one for cinematography.
Mr. Grobet continued to work as a DP on over 500 commercials for a list of international brands. His feature films include “Sin Remitente - No Return Address”, “Santitos” and “Sexo Pudor y Lagrimas” for which he earned nominations from the Mexican Academy Awards.
Shortly there after he met with Director Julian Schnabel of, “Before Night Falls” and was invited to be the Cinematographer on this feature film. It went onto win several awards and nominations, including one for Best Cinematography at the 2001 Independent Spirits Awards.
Additional credits include “The Woodsman”, directed by Nicole Kassell, “Monster House” and “City of Ember” with director Gil Kenan, “Nacho Libre”, by director Jared Hess, “Music and Lyrics” with director Marc Lawrence, “Nine Lives” and “Mother and Child” directed by Rodrigo Garcia and “I love you Phillip Morris” by Glenn Ficara and John Requa.
Currently in production is “The Back Up Plan” directed by Alan Poul. Together he and Sergio Guerrero have collaborated on a list of international campaigns in the U.S. and Mexico. Among his many feature films, commercial credits and international acclaim, Mr. Grobert is a foundation of creative visual inspiration whose attitude and professionalism make him an tremendous source to work with and learn from.
